Episode 6: Nicole Boyle on Shifting Your Passion to a Business

In Podcast by Christien Louviere0 Comments

When it comes to starting and running your own business, a lot of different people will be quick to give you their own form of advice. How do you know when you should take it? Today’s guest will tell you that she was only fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time, but her unique perspective results in some prodigious pieces of advice that will no doubt take your brand to the next level.

Nicole Boyle started out working on development programs in universities like Virginia Tech and UVA, but when the opportunity to open her own yoga studio came knocking, she seized it. Her skills in advertising, marketing, and communication helped her develop her business, but it was her personal point of view that made it successful. “You can’t run your business to please everyone,” she says. “At the end of the day, you have to do what you think is right.” And on today’s podcast, she talks about everything she’s done right and all the important lessons she learned, including:

  • The hard truths you have to learn when opening your own business
  • Being open, receptive, and not afraid to step out of your comfort zone (and how something as diverse as yoga can help you do that!)
  • How to get feedback, learn from it, and move forward
  • How to set realistic boundaries for yourself and your clients
  • Keeping yourself and your business fluid so you can create a sense of community for your clients

While Nicole talks about her personal life lessons on today’s podcast, you may be surprised at the most important lessons she shares. We never think of apologies as being part of business model, but sometimes it’s the only thing you need to do in order to take the next step forward. This sense of modesty, on top of Nicole’s down-to-earth attitude, makes her a true joy to talk to and work with.
